I do want to point out that Canada had a floating exchange rate for most of the 1950 to 1972 period. It actually had "grey market" floating exchange rate even prior to 1950 when wartime capital controls had been in place since 1939.

Indeed, Canada was early to this, although the exchange rate was fixed between 1962 and 1970 and did not deviate much from USD parity in the post-war period given the managed rates in the rest of the world.
